Hey you. Yes you, the person whose phone just rang. You probably picked that ringtone because you like it, but the fact that the phone rang and you frantically searched for it without looking in your pockets or purse or wherever you keep it so you could stop it from ringing before checking to see who is calling tells me that you’re a little embarrassed of it.

Sure, I may think it’s ridiculous that you, a woman nearing 30, have a Britney Spears song blaring when your phone rings. Yeah dude, I may look on with incredulity when you reach to shut off your phone before I get to hear the next word after “Hey, you’re a crazy…” But here’s the thing, it doesn’t matter what I think about your ringtone selection as long as you own it. After all, I unabashedly have Get Ready by The Temptations playing whenever I get a text message, and I’m not afraid to admit that I let it play for awhile before I actually look at the message. Rock out to your Avril Lavigne a little before you answer. Bob your head to your Justin Timberlake as you’re reaching for the phone. Own it. If you’re embarrassed of your ringer when there are other people around, maybe you should change it to something else.

  1. I also rock out to a Temptations ring tone – Can’t Get Next To You. Mediocre minds think alike!

    Chicka boom chicka boom.

  2. i have “in-a-gadda-da-vida” by iron butterfly as a ringtone and i never answer the phone just so i can hear it.

That’s the unintended side effect of a sweet ringtone. My ringtone when a call comes in is Nuthin’ But A G Thang, and I can’t help but enjoy it and do sometimes forget to answer the phone.

  3. I probably should set my ringtone to something nice and embarrassing. The standard Verizon brrrrrrrrrrding is pretty boring, and probably says worse things about me than a nice “Hit Me Baby One More Time” would.

It depends. How loud is the bring?

  4. I’ve never for a second been ashamed of Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again.”

Oooh that’s a good one. I’m thinking I need to get some Bon Jovi on there. I’m feeling a little Bad Medicine.

  5. Sadly, it’s a tasteful volume.

  6. I don’t do ringtones, but if I ever do, I’m going old school videogames…I’m thinking Golden Axe. Something that only real dedicated people would get.

I also always thought this old Mick Foley entranece would have been great. I’m afraid it might cause a wreck while I’m slugging though, if the driver has no idea.
